Second awards

Definition

Arrangement with another Higher Education Institution with degree awarding powers to grant a second award for cognate but separate studies.

This arrangement articulates two programmes leading to separate awards and treats them as pre-requisites (for example, a completed MMU Honours Degree being treated as a pre-requisite for additional period of cognate study at an overseas university leading to a separate award from that institution, or vice versa).

The approval process

In all instances Section 1 of Due Diligence (abridged) must be completed by the MMU supporting faculty and submitted to the Collaborative Partnerships Office

For new Programme Approvals the introduction of the arrangement is fully integrated into the Approval process (click here for details)

If the arrangement is introduced a the time of Programme Review is fully integrated into the Review process (click here for details)

If the new arrangement is introduced part-way through the life cycle of the Programme (ie after approval but before review) it is approved via the Major Modification process (click here for details)

Additional points to note Not to be confused with Dual Award arrangements whereby MMU and another awarding institutions work together to provide programmes leading to separate awards being granted by both MMU and the partner.
