About Assessment Boards at Manchester Met

Manchester Met's Tiered Assessment Boards provide definitive decisions on matters related to student attainment, progression and awards.

Mancheser Met's Tiered Assessment Board structure has been developed to facilitate greater attention to the comparison of performance across units and programmes. This, in turn, informs the identification of overall exceptional performance or poor performance in a unit or programme and feeds into the Continuous Monitoring and Improvement process. Tiered Assessment Boards also enable the University to ensure consistency of workload for External Examiners, along with safeguarding application of the Assessment Regulations.

Assessment Management Group

The Assessment Management Group is responsible for the oversight and management of student assessment across Manchester Met. Membership is drawn from academic and administrative staff, and the group reports to the Registrar and the University's deliberative committee structure. Minutes of the Assessment Management Group meetings, along with relevant papers, are available to University staff online.

Guidance for Assessment Boards

The primary resources for the management and operation of Assessment Boards are the Procedures for the Conduct of Assessment Boards, and the Procedures for the Conduct of Single-Tier Assessment Boards. However, there are a number of regulatory aspects that require more detailed guidance and these are outlined via these pages.

This guidance covers 8 primary areas in relation to Assessment Boards:

This guidance is primarily aimed at Chairs of Assessment Boards and Senior Officers. The guidance should be read in conjunction with the Assessment Regulations for Undergraduate Programme of Study and the Assessment Regulations for Taught Postgraduate Programmes of Study.
