Assessment Regulations for Taught Programmes

Introduction

The rules and procedures relating to all assessed work, including written and oral examinations, coursework, essays, projects, dissertations, practical work and placements are set out in the appropriate web pages below.

These regulations are intended to provide effective mechanisms and structures to ensure that students are fairly and objectively assessed, whilst at the same time maintaining the University's high academic standards. Ignorance of these rules and assessment requirements will not constitute a defence in any disciplinary procedures for infringement.

If you have problems understanding the Assessment Regulations you can discuss this with your Programme Leader or Faculty Student Support Officer, or alternatively with the Advice Centre within the Students' Union.

Each year the University monitors the applications of its Assessment Regulations and review them appropriately. The comments of External Examiners are considered during this process. To view the report of the 2012-13 Review of Regulations - please click here.

Note: The University introduced a new undergraduate curriculum framework from September 2012, based on a 30 credit unit size. The vast majority of undergraduate students enrolling from September 2012 will follow programmes which conform to this framework and to revised assessment regulations which support it. These assessment regulations are presented at 1. (a) below.

Undergraduate students who enrolled prior to September 2011 and who are progressing to level 6 will generally be following programmes of study based on a 20 credit unit size. These programmes are governed by the old regulations presented at 1. (b) below.
