The Nomination and Approvals Process
Criteria for the appointment of external examiners are given in the Institutional Code of Practice and Regulations for External Examining. Nomination forms and requests for extensions of periods of approval which have undergone scrutiny at Faculty level should be submitted to the Centre for Academic Standards & Quality Enhancement, All Saints Building for institutional approval.

The Reporting Process
The University requires each external examiner to complete a pro-forma report. This can be downloaded as a Microsoft Word document below:

Payment of External Examiner Fees and Expenses
The finance form (Fin 1A) is to be used when making claims for payment of external examiner fees and expenses. Examiners should note that the University requires each examiner to submit a completed external examiner report before claim forms will be processed.
The private car use declaration should be completed by examiners using their own vehicles for official Manchester Metropolitan University business.
For assistance with queries relating to the fees payable and for details of the faculty address to which the completed claim form should be submitted, external examiners should contact the relevant programme team. [Back to Top]
External Examiners for Research Programmes (Mres or Part A of professional Doctorate only)
External examiners for research programmes are processed via the Research and Enterprise Development (RED) Office. The nomination forms for External Examiners on Research Programmes Taught by Cohort (ie MRes or Part A of professional Doctorate) are as follows:

Reports from External Examiners on Research Programmes Taught by Cohort should be submitted on the pro-forma TREE4 – Taught Research External Examiners report pro-forma.
