Student Alert
Because of the way that the government funds universities, MMU needs to ensure that students attend examinations and complete other assessments. Where students are unable to do this, they need to provide acceptable evidence of the reasons why. Some important changes are being made to the Assessment Regulations for 2009/10 to reinforce these requirements. In particular:
(i) Students will be entitled to a second re-assessment opportunity only if they have
attempted all of their first re-assessments or if they have had exceptional factors
approved by a Faculty Exceptional Factors Panel;
(ii) Students will be able to repeat an academic year with full attendance only once at any given academic level and no more than twice during their studies for a particular qualification (note that this does not apply in cases where exceptional factors are approved by a Faculty Exceptional Factors Panel);
(iii) Students who repeat level 6 (the final year of undergraduate degree courses) with full attendance will not be able to achieve more than a Third Class Honours degree (note that this restriction does not apply in cases where exceptional factors are approved by a Faculty Exceptional Factors Panel);
(iv) Boards of examiners will approve repeat years only where students have attended
examinations and submitted other assessments, or have had exceptional factors approved by a Faculty Exceptional Factors Panel.
These changes are reflected in the Assessment Regulations for 2009/10, which can be found on the MMU web site at
