What does the word ‘alumni’ mean?

‘Alumni’ is Latin for ‘former students’.

We use it to refer to all those who have graduated or successfully completed their course of study at Manchester Metropolitan University or one of the predecessor institutions that merged to form MMU.

Can I be involved in the alumni community if I graduated from Manchester Polytechnic?

You are a member of our alumni community if you graduated or completed a course of study at Manchester Metropolitan University or at one of the institutions that merged to form MMU, including:

How do I ensure I continue to hear from MMU after graduating?

All students are automatically members of the University’s alumni community upon graduating or completing a course of study and will receive emails from the Alumni Office about the benefits of staying in touch.

To ensure you continue to receive information about the benefits and services for alumni after graduating, we ask you to register your current details and indicate any preferences and interests.

You are also a member of the alumni community if you completed a course at one of the predecessor institutions that formed MMU.

After your initial registration of details, simply use our update form to update your details whenever they change.

How do I obtain a replacement certificate?

You need to contact the Registry at +44 (0)161 247 1980 or email awards@mmu.ac.uk. There is a £35 fee for this service.

How do I obtain a transcript of my degree?

If you require a detailed breakdown of the courses you studied as part of your degree, e.g. if you are applying to live or study in a different country, please contact your old department directly.

MMU’s Employability and Careers Service must contact all new graduates to find out what they are doing after graduation for the Graduate Destinations Survey.

How do I opt out of communications from the alumni and development office?

To opt out, you can either:

  • tick the relevant box by the Data Protection Statement section on the registration or update forms
  • or send a request to opt out, together with your full name and date of birth to alumni@mmu.ac.uk or phone +44 (0)161 247 2158.
