MMU in the community

MMU produces a considerable number of the city’s health and education professionals and the university is committed to economic and social regeneration and to widening the access to lifechanging education.

What would Birley Fields offer the local community?

The Birley Fields Campus would put your local university in the heart of your community and offer:

  • local employment opportunities, including around 340 new jobs supported by the additional spend in the area (estimated at £76.7m per year), including up to 60 jobs at the construction stage*
  • local training and skills development, particularly via the new Employment and Skills Centre on Alexandra Road in which MMU is a partner
  • partnerships with local schools and colleges
  • a boost for local businesses, especially the retail and service sectors
  • development of Foundation degrees in health and education

A 400 space car park, a residents’ parking scheme and a Green Travel Plan will all contribute to reducing street parking.

MMU is determined to make Birley Fields the greenest campus in the UK. Sustainability will be designed in and all buildings will incorporate technologies to minimise carbon, save energy and cut waste. Find out more about MMU and the environment.
