Support for Disabled Students

If you’re a disabled student you may have extra considerations when you’re planning your career.

There will be many different and personal ways of handling these issues and your Careers & Employability Service is here to help. Our commitment to equality of opportunity for all students underpins our provision of high-quality support to disabled students looking for work.

The general services and resources of the careers team will be relevant and useful, but the Careers & Employability Service also has an adviser who specialises in the issues facing disabled students and graduates.

What we can do to help

We can give advice on a number of areas including:

  • your rights as a disabled person
  • disclosing your disability
  • how to market yourself so it's you and not your disability that an employer looks at
  • information on ‘Access to Work’ and other funding
  • CV writing - how to deal with any gaps in education, lack of work experience, you may have
  • finding term-time or vacation employment

You can pre-book a one hour appointment with Marina Matosic, our specialist careers adviser, by contacting the Careers & Employability Service on 0161 247 3483. D/deaf students can book their appointment by text on 07717 361215. Appointments are available at MMU Cheshire on Thursdays.

You can also discuss career ideas through our online form.

Have a look at disabilitytoolkits, skill.org.uk, and jobs and events for targeted information and advice on career planning.

Are your opportunities equal?

We’re also here to help if you are treated unfairly. Contact Marina as soon as possible if you feel an employer has discriminated against you at any stage during the application process or while on a placement.
