Green your department, have fun and win prizes.
Green Impact is a fun, simple and innovative program that inspires staff and students to collectively green Manchester Metropolitan University buildings. The best part about Green Impact is that everyone gets acknowledged for their hard work and celebrates collective achievements at the end of the program in an amazing awards ceremony. The changes made through our ‘Green Champions’ are sustained and a legacy is created.

Your ‘Green champions’ work through clear and easy to implement criteria covering every aspect of sustainability: from biodiversity, sustainable travel and fair-trade, to energy, waste and locally sourced food. The workbook is designed to be accessible to anyone, even if you’ve never participated in a greening initiative ever before. You may find that you are probably doing a lot of the actions already.
Once you’ve handed in your workbook, everyone’s efforts get celebrated at an amazing Green Impact awards ceremony at the end of the year and you get to find out what award you’ve won, have fun, meet your other ‘Green Champions’ and eat delicious food.

‘The University Executive is pleased to give its unreserved support for taking the Green Impact Project to a new level in 2011/12. To help foster the initiative, we ask all managers of teams interested in participating to approve dedicated time to facilitate staff working on their project plans and workbooks, where operational requirements make this possible.
We wish great success to the project as it goes from strength to strength in enabling cultural change across the University.’

We are looking for student volunteers to be trained and complete audits of environmental actions by MMU departments participating in Green Impact program. Each volunteer auditor will complete one or more audit in pairs.
This is the perfect opportunity to build your CV, develop essential skills and understanding of sustainability along with opportunities to build strong networks across the university.
With 66 depatments and 2127 staff directly affected by the Green Impact program, MMU is officially hosting the largest program of its kind in the UK.
Becoming a Green Impact Assistant offers students the unique opportunity to develop and learn practical ways to create sustainability across an institution. It’s a great way to create change, develop essential skills and build your CV.
This is an exciting opportunity available to a group of students to organise a sustainability themed arts exhibition of your choice.
Create a University wide docu-film capturing MMU’s amazing Green Impact experience.

The department has energy-awareness stickers and posters in place in the majority of offices and communal facilities encouraging staff and students to switch off lights and/or equipment when not needed.
Posters should be dated to show when they were put up and ideally refreshed every 12-months to keep them noticeable.
If your department is located in a listed building, only put up posters and stickers where permissible. Download the poster. Order your FREE energy awareness stickers.
If you wish to share any resources you have found please send them to Robert Croll and Laura Williams and we can post onto this website.
