Student Switch Off is an inter-halls energy saving competition running across both Manchester and Cheshire campuses at MMU.

We’re giving you the chance to win an iPad 2!

We’re offering students across MMU the chance to create a short video promoting energy saving in halls of residence as part of our Student Switch Off campaign! In May 2012, the entrant with the most likes on our Facebook page wins an iPad2- easy!

You’re free to be as imaginative and adventurous as you like! Make the video interesting, inspiring, entertaining or even funny so people want to get involved with Student Switch Off competition in the future. The possibilities are endless and film makers are encouraged to be creative!

The competition is open to any MMU student who is passionate about filmmaking or doing something different to create positive change regardless of your experience.

Competition guidance:

  • Produce a video between 30 seconds – 1 minute long
  • The video must convey a message about energy saving primarily to first year students
  • We accept most sorts of video… animation, illustration, panoramic, docu-film… whatever suits you! It could be singing, dancing, a comedy skit or any unique and exceptional interpretation.
  • Upload the finished video to our facebook page
  • Content must be non-derogatory and non-offensive and the use of expletives is strictly prohibited!
  • By submitting your entry to Manchester Metropolitan University, you agree to the use of your video by MMU for future promotional events and campaigns.

Student Switch Off aims to reduce energy consumption by you making small changes… try turning lights off where possible, wearing extra layers instead of putting the heating on, or putting lids on pans when you cook! Last year we saved over 102 tonnes of CO2, saving 8.4% on energy consumption compared to the year before!

The winning hall will be the one that saves the most energy! All students in halls: get involved and win PRIZES!

Prizes

This year’s prizes are termly membership at the gym in Cheshire, 3g pitch hire, 3 month gym memberships in Didsbury, termly bike rentals, tickets to Sankeys in Manchester, tickets to The Warehouse Project in Manchester, lush giftsets, Ben and Jerry’s, food vouchers plus weekly tickets to clubnights, free drinks and many more!!
