Sexual Orientation

According to the Equality Act (2010), it is unlawful to discriminate against a person on the grounds of their sexual orientation.

Manchester Metropolitan University is committed to ensuring equality for all its staff, regardless of sexuality or gender identity. The Equality and Diversity Team works closely with the LGBT Staff Forum to address any issues relating to sexual orientation and to foster an inclusive and accepting environment in which to work.

Our Current Work

The Equality and Diversity team have been working closely with the LGBT Staff Forum and LGBT Student Society to produce a comprehensive guide for LGBT staff and students. The guide includes tips on finding an LGBT-accepting GP, the University's policy on homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying and harassment, and how to join LGBT-inclusive clubs and societies in Manchester.

To mark LGBT History Month 2017 the Equality and Diversity team have worked with colleagues in the Law School to develop a timeline of LGBT History in Britain. From Roman times to the current day, this narrative explores the many events that have shaped people's lives. This year also marks the 50th Anniversary of the Partial Decriminalisation of Homosexuality.
