Manchester Metropolitan University has a long tradition of reaching out to parts of the community that have not traditionally participated in higher education and of attracting large numbers of students from a diversity of backgrounds.
About 44% of our students come from households with an annual income of less than £25k. With the introduction of higher tuition fees, MMU created a student support package for new fulltime undergraduate students, and during the 2011/12 academic year, we gave the greatest amount in bursaries of any UK university to the most students from low-income backgrounds.
But we need to do more to ensure that we continue to provide financial support for our students – to help them to come to the University and to assist them while they are here.
We are asking alumni, staff and friends to make a gift to support new scholarships and bursaries for students.
A scholarship can give someone with the academic ability the advantages and opportunities of an MMU education. The MMU Fund will provide new scholarships that will help those who would not consider coming to university without extra financial support.
