The MMU Intern scheme has been created specifically to offer employability support to MMU graduates and will give them valuable experience of working either within a specific University department or across multiple departments, giving you an edge in the employment market.

Working Arrangements

MMU Interns will be engaged in various project work and activities throughout the period of appointment (3 to 12 Months), and will have a dedicated supervisor. They are expected to participate in Departmental events and attend Staff Development courses (subject to availability and agreement with your supervisor).

Salary

MMU Interns will be paid at Grade 2 Spinal Point 5, which currently is £14,758 per annum, pro rata. This will increase with any pay awards that are approved throughout the period of appointment. All MMU Interns will pay tax and national insurance as required.

Hours of Work

Each internship is a full-time position so you will be expected to work 35 hours a week. The standard work pattern is Monday to Friday, between 8.45 am and 5 pm. However due to the nature of some of the work being undertaken, MMU Interns may be required to work outside the normal working hours.

Some flexibility in working hours may be possible but this must be agreed with your supervisor first.

Holiday

MMU Interns are entitled to 25 days per annum, pro rata, (this does not include bank holidays or University closure days, which are in addition to your entitlement). Holiday must be taken within the period of the contract by agreement with the department. MMU Interns should ask their supervisor about how to book leave.

Accommodation

Finding accommodation during the internship is the responsibility of the MMU Intern. Support can be obtained from the Students’ Union or the Accommodation Office, and there are many commercial organisations dealing with residential letting in the local area.
