MMU Print: final phase

OVER the past year, IT Services have been installing an all-new print system to replace the University's aging photocopiers and printers.

There are now around 250 Multi-Functional Printers (MFPs) in use across MMU and the plans for the final phase of the MMU Print project have now been approved, so there will be more installed in the coming months.

The final phase of this project is now underway and involves replacing all staff desktop printers with the new MFPs. This has already happened at MMU Cheshire and at the new Business School and Student Hub.

The timeline for the remainder of the project is as follows:

  • Now until December: installation of power and data sockets where needed
  • Dec - Jan: delivery and installation of the new printers
  • Feb 1: last date for exception requests
  • Feb onwards: collection of the old desktop printers.

This allows us to install the new MFPs and retire the old desktop printers during quieter times to minimise any disruption, whilst also providing time for any exception requests to be considered.

So far, exceptions have been minimal (less than five per site) and each is being dealt with on an individual basis. If you feel you have grounds to keep your desktop printer, please follow the exceptions request process.

If you feel you have grounds for maintaining a desktop printer (on disability grounds or for a technical specialism), you will need to follow the Exceptions Request process and fill in the Desktop Printer Exceptions Process form.

Desktop Printer Exceptions Forms for MMU All Saints staff need to be submitted to the MMU Print Project Team by:
Friday 1 February 2013.

Your request must then be approved and your form signed as approved by both your line manager and the relevant directorate nominee.

When this has been done, please send your form to the MMU Print Project Team
