portrait of Beth Johnson
‘At Manchester Metropolitan University I was given the time, the space and the facilities to develop my own ideas, with regular support from practitioners such as renowned ceramicist Michael Eden and lighting designer Claire Norcross.
I was encouraged to experiment and think outside of my own box, and to take a creative and original approach to processes such as form making and mould making.’

Beth’s original tableware designs are inspired by the way in which we handle ceramics at the dinner table – passing condiments around, shaking salt pots and swirling salad dressings. She aims to emphasis this touch relationship between the user and the ceramic.
