Industrial Ceramic Designer
‘I am a material led designer focusing on industrial processes within ceramics, driven by everyday functional objects and taking inspiration from objects that we encounter and altering their context. The key motivating factors within my practice are function and aesthetics, both of these are crucial to the design of a product.
‘Traditional Spode teacups, taken out of their context, influence the range Tea Light. Exploring scale and form to create a collection of Bone China Lighting. Kings Shilling Mug is inspired by the myth of the Kings Shilling, creating a narrative within the product and exploring tradition, material and context.
‘MMU allowed me the freedom to experiment with materials and process; through this experimentation, I discovered ceramics and mould making which soon became my passion. As well as material exploration, self-discovery took place, identifying the context that I fit within and the drive behind my work, allowing my confidence to grow.
‘Since graduating, I received recommendation for the Guldergagaard Project Network and was shortlisted to the final three for the Bluecoat Solo exhibition Prize. I was talent spotted by Creative Review and featured on www.creativereview.co.uk, and was also named one of the ‘stars of the 3D show’ 2014 on www.ferriousonline.co.uk. ’
