Malaysian footballer Yee Ming Low has travelled 6,000 miles to chase his dream of playing for top Premiership team Manchester United.
Yee Ming has landed a place on the MMU football diploma course, run in tandem with Newcastle College and open to all boys aged 16-18 with good footballing ability.
The budding sportsman, who hails from Selengor, Malaysia, has set his heart on emulating Man United right-back Gary Neville, a superstar in Malaysia and his personal idol.
The 16-year old, described as a dogged defender, applied for a place in the academy last year and visited the area with his parents before deciding to make the courageous move half way across the world.
Diploma in Sport
While on the course, he will be working towards a BTEC National Diploma in Sport, which is equivalent to an A Level.
Melvin Wilkes, a coach from MMU’s Department of Exercise and Sport Science said: "He is a great footballer and is doing very well with his football and studies. He is a good character and has fitted in extremely well with his peers."
Academy students attend lectures and spent the rest of their time developing their football skills with UEFA trained coaches at MMU’s Cheshire campus.
Yee Ming, who is living with a staff member and her family said: "I am thoroughly enjoying my course, everyone here is so nice and I have been made to feel very welcome."
