MMU has been allocated 519 extra student places by the Government, which has created 10,000 places nationally in subjects important to the economy.
The places are aimed at easing pressure on the university admissions system, which has seen record applications this year because of the recession.
A total of 160 institutions will take extra students, with MMU receiving the largest allocation of students of all UK universities.
Investing in the future
The Government will fund financial support, including grants and tuition fee loans, for extra full-time undergraduate entrants in subjects relevant to the government's "new industry, new jobs" policy, including science, business and technology.
Lord Mandelson, the Business Secretary, said: "By making available 10,000 extra places in science, technology and maths we are not only helping more individuals with the ambition and ability to go to university but also investing in this country's future."
A spokeswoman for the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills said: "It's great news for young people wanting to go to university this year and good news for the UK as we continue to build Britain's future."
