Tackle waste at work!

Sign up to 'Green Impact'

ENVIRONMENTALLY-friendly staff are tackling the modern culture of waste without leaving their desks!

Green Impact Teams across the University are taking simple but effective steps to protect the planet such as replacing bottled water with tap water and switching plain A4 paper to 80% recycled or paper from certified sustainable sources.

Others are putting up energy-awareness stickers and posters in offices and drawing up green wish lists.

Staff actions are being boosted by MMU signing up to ‘Green Impact’, a scheme that sees departments and teams within the University sign up to an environmental behaviour change programme.

Your department!

The scheme is based on a self assessment workbook containing 140criteria, each delivering a practical action that will help a department to reduce its negative environmental and social impacts.

Anyone can lead Green Impact on behalf of their team and become a 'Green Champion', playing a part in saving energy and working in more environmentally friendly ways, all part of the University's pledge to reduce their emissions by 10% in 2010.

Green Impact is designed as a bottom-up and voluntary scheme, in which departments work towards achieving a set of accreditation standards.

To support each department, MMU's Environment Team was successful in obtaining funding from Manchester City Council's 'Manchester Carbon Innovation Fund' in a bid to strengthen the partnership between MMU and the wider environment.

Degrees cooler

Green Impact is part of the wider 'Degrees Cooler' programme led by the Environment Team, which includes the Big Student Switch off and Go Green Week.
