MANCHESTER Metropolitan University is rolling out the red carpet to welcome its new intake of students.
We have planned our best ever Welcome Week to give nearly 8,000 new arrivals their best possible start to life in Manchester, in Cheshire and at Manchester Metropolitan University.
The University and the Student Union have organised an extended welcome period (Sept 15 – 28) packed full of activities, events, trips, socials, parties and much more!
A full list of everything taking place can be found in the Welcome Week guide, downloadable Here
We have recruited over 60 Welcome Week Reps to be on hand to help students to move in to their MMU halls on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th September. They will act as a first point of contact for any questions or worries and can be identified by their bright blue t-shirts and huge smiles!
Informal networking socials at each campus give students the chance to meet other students who study on their campus and meet their Union reps. Students can come along for a coffee and a chat and get any questions they may have answered.
Alexis Hulme, marketing manager for the Student Union said: “We hope that every student – international, mature, student parents, local and commuting or students living in halls will find these socials a great chance to find out more about their campus, meet their student experience tutors, and socialise with other students!”

There will also be a Union Hub at each campus throughout the whole week (17 – 21 Sept) where students can meet Welcome Week Reps, Union staff members, find out more about the Union services and buy all tickets and wristbands for social events.
Whilst we have a jam-packed night time programme, our top pick of the week has to be the Twisted Circus Freshers’ Ball, where students can step into the magical world of a twisted circus with Radio 1 DJ HUW Stephens and video DJ BEAT A MAXX. Clowns and candyfloss included! To see a full list of the night time events Click Here
The week will see MMU bedecked with banners, posters, and ‘teardrop’ signs telling students about our world class facilities, our green credentials, the opportunities to join sports clubs and societies and celebrating your arrival in the UK’s most popular student city.
The Student Union has produced a slick 32-page brochure of everything students need to know about learning, student support, accommodation and having fun in Manchester and Crewe as well as a guide to all Welcome Week events at all five campuses.
Ben Atkins said: “The first weeks are some of the most exciting and hectic times as a student. Welcome Week is fantastic starting point to get to know MMU and some of the great people here.”
Welcome Week Guides will be available next week in all MMU building reception areas for staff to take a look at, or visit www.mmunion.co.uk/welcome and www.mmu.ac.uk/welcome)
