Governance and Secretariat Team

 

About the Department
The Governance and Secretariat Team has responsibility for ensuring that there are effective governance arrangements in place within the University, by leading and advising on constitutional matters, supporting the Board of Governors and providing a professional support service to the Executive, Directorate, Academic Board and other decision-making bodies of the University.

Board of Governors
The Registrar is Clerk to the Board of Governors and the Governance and Secretariat Team has responsibility for supporting and servicing the Board of Governors and its various Committees and Advisory Groups:

  • Board of Governors
  • Audit Committee
  • Estates and Services Advisory Group
  • Finance and Human Resources Committee
  • Marketing and Student Experience Advisory Group
  • Nominations, Governance and Remuneration Committee

Executive & Directorate
The team provides a secretariat service to the University Executive and Directorate, the Senior Management Bodies of the University.

Committee Servicing and Committee Handbook
The team is responsible for leading on committee servicing standards across the University and for providing a high quality secretariat service for a number of University boards and committees:

  • Academic Board
  • Academic Ethics Committee
  • Honorary Awards Committee
  • University Programmes Board
  • Diversity and Equal Opportunities Committee
  • Health and Safety Committee
  • Sports Partnership Board
  • Space Management Delivery Group and Strategy Group
  • University/Students' Union Forum
  • All Saints Health and Safety Panel
  • Information and Communications Technology Strategy Group
  • Learning Innovation Research and Enterprise Sub Group

The Committee Handbook provides guidance on MMU's committee structure, terms of reference and conventions. The Handbook also contains useful information for all staff on the roles of committee chairs, secretaries and members of all University Boards and Committees.

University Calendar
The team is responsible for developing and maintaining a comprehensive University Calendar, to provide an accessible and authoritative source of information for a series of key University cycles and frameworks, including:

  • Academic Calendar;
  • AME schedule;
  • Strategic planning cycle;
  • PDR cycle;
  • External reporting and census dates;
  • Multi-faith calendar;
  • Committee schedule;
  • Recruitment and admissions schedule;
  • Conference and event calendar;
  • NSS cycle.

Policies and Strategies
The team is responsible for the development and monitoring of systems for the approval, publication and review of the University’s policies, strategies, regulations and institutional codes of practice to ensure that the University has relevant and up-to-date policies, strategies, regulations and codes of practice in place. A Policy Framework has been developed, which aims to provide guidance for all staff involved in policy development.
