Declaration of Interests

 

The University maintains a Register of interest which applies to the following groups of staff and Governors:

  • All Governors
  • Vice-Chancellor
  • Deputy Vice-Chancellor
  • Pro-Vice-Chancellors
  • Directors of Professional Services
  • Any senior member of staff not included in the above categories

These individuals must complete an annual declaration of interests form.

Where no such interests are identified a nil return must be given.

The annual declaration form requests details of any hospitality or gifts received throughout the year and any conflicts of interests. This does not remove the need to disclose gifts, hospitality or conflicts as and when they arise and staff should continue to advise the Governance and Secretariat Team of these.

Information to be Included

Staff and Governors themselves are in the best position to judge what information should be recorded in the Register, although the following categories of interest are put forward by way of example:

 

i) Directorships (executive and non-executive) of public or private companies.

 

ii) Paid employment. (name of employer and nature of position - including the position held within the University)

 

iii) Shareholdings exceeding 10% of the issued share capital of a company.

 

iv) Remunerated or honorary appointments to management boards/committees of public bodies, charities and other voluntary associations (please indicate remunerated, honorary or unpaid).

 

v) Family - It is appropriate to provide elements of the above information in respect of close members of their family.

 

vi) Any other pecuniary or non-pecuniary interest which is likely to, or which if publicly known might reasonably be thought to, influence a Member in the exercise of her/his independent judgement.

 

Once completed, the form must be returned to the Governance and Secretariat Team, L302, 3rd Floor, All Saints Building, Manchester, M15 6BH or by email to m.halliwell@mmu.ac.uk

The Governance and Secretariat Team will maintain an annual register of interests and will co-ordinate the issue of forms and completion. The Registrar will be responsible for holding and maintaining the register. Forms will be held securely in a register held by the Governance and Secretariat Team. The contents are personal data and will be kept and processed only in conformance with the University's Data Protection policies.
