This term all sessions are tailored towards helping runners prepare for the Manchester 10k run which takes place at the end of April.
We have a small group of dedicated volunteers, including two trained run leaders, who will guide and help you along the way and we will work through our programme so that you should be able to run 5k after 9 weeks! You will have the chance to set your own personal goals and receive help, support and encouragement to reach them and we want to work with you to achieve your goals. We think we can get complete beginners, who have perhaps never ran before, at a level strong enough to complete in the Manchester 10k which takes place on the 26th May. We have a slightly different plan for intermediates or those who already run – please just let us know your previous experience.
Last year all members of the MMU Student/Staff Jogging club were offered free registration onto the Manchester 10k run saving them the £39 entry free and once again Run England have said they will provide us with a limited number of free places. There’s never been a greater time to join the group and get fit in the new year, so If you want to make this the year that you lead a healthier and active lifestyle come and join us.
The group meet every Thursday at 4.45pm during term time at All Saints Park (in front of the gates leading onto Oxford Road) and follow some local routes led by the qualified Run England instructors. The round routes help runners monitor the time it takes them to cover a certain distance which allows runners to monitor their progress and improvement each week. Joggers will receive access to the showers in the new business school in case you were wondering about freshening up after the run!
This term we have also teamed up with the University Athletics club and Salford Harriers to offer an additional session to those keen runners who want an extra training session to help them prepare for the 10k run. This takes place every Tuesday evening on the athletics track at Sports City from 6.30pm. Students can take advantage of these wonderful facilities for just £1.85 with student ID or £2 with a staff ID. Once again volunteers will be on hand to help you along the way and all levels of fitness are welcome.
