MMU offers a number of opportunities to get involved in sport and physical activity at a recreational level through the Campus Sport programme. These activities are fun and are open to both students and staff.

This provides the opportunity for halls of residence, departments, individual courses or a group of friends to enter teams in the leagues.

Aikido

Crewe and Nantwich Aikido Club

Aikido is a martial art that can be traced back to Daito Ryu Jujitsu, a form of lethal self-defence and hand-to-hand combat in feudal Japan. Aikido is non-competitive and non-violent. It does not meet aggression and force with resistance. Instead it redirects the opposing force using circular movement and joint locks that neutralize the attacker with a pin or throw. No martial arts experience necessary. Great for all fitness levels.

How does Aikido work?

The goal is to break an opponent’s balance using timing and control rather than strength. With the development of basic techniques, Aikido provides a very powerful means of self-defence without undue aggression.
