All sports clubs and teams are run through the Athletic Union which is part of the Student Activities Department in the Students Manchester Metropolitan University Union. Athletic Unions encompass a wide range of sports clubs and activities that are set up and run by the students themselves. The majority of sports clubs compete in British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) competition on Wednesday afternoons against other Universities around the country.

BUCS also provides the opportunity for international and national representation in many sports. Some clubs also compete in local league sport on other days of the week. There are links between both Athletic Unions and local community sports clubs providing as many opportunities as possible for you to get involved and get active.

Individual athletes and BUCS

If you’re an individual athlete who is interested in representing MMU in the BUCS championships, or would like to know more, please email s.u.sport@mmu.ac.uk for more details.

We have funding to support entries and costs, and you may even be eligible to apply for one of our sports scholarships.
