The Property Services team annually test portable equipment. One of the common failures is the non-compliance of power leads on certain electrical appliances which should not be used on MMU premises.

You will notice that the plug is smaller than a standard moulded plug and has no fuse.
If you have a piece of equipment with a similar power lead, please stop using the appliance immediately and report it to the Facilities Help Desk on ext 2882.
Facilities pay for all maintenance and repairs on behalf of the University. If you require Building Alteration works or new equipment installed then these need to be funded by your Faculty or Central Support Department.
Each repair request is assessed and assigned a priority level based on the nature of the task this determines the length of time needed to complete the repair.

The Building Services Team should be contacted in the first instance. We design/install new equipment and installations and can plan all works required for faculties. Call the Helpdesk on 2882 to log your request.
Yes. The disposal of all electrical equipment throughout all areas including laboratories is covered by WEEE legislation which requires specialist removal. Arrangements can be made by contacting your Service Manager. For some items there might be a cost involved for collection.
Plugs with an earth pin constructed from plastic and metal must not be used.

In order to use this equipment, you will need a Europlug adapter which can be purchased from an electrical store for use on double insulated equipment, these are the only acceptable adapters and must be correctly fused. Alternatively the two pin plug can be removed and replaced with a standard BS1362 plug by an electrician – contact the Helpdesk on 2882 for further information.
