This survey will give you an opportunity to tell us about how you feel about working at Manchester Metropolitan University.
It is important to us to understand the views of colleagues. Everyone’s contribution makes a difference and we hope you will respond to this opportunity to share your experiences.
Your opinions and feedback will make a valuable contribution to shaping the implementation of the University Strategy.
The survey has been designed in conjunction with ORC International - an independent business intelligence company. ORC are market leaders in the field of engagement research and work with over 300 organisations across all sectors, including Higher Education.
Your individual views will remain strictly anonymous; neither ORC nor the University will be able to link responses to individuals. ORC belong to the Market Research Society, they are bound by a strict Code of Conduct to ensure confidentiality.
Results cannot be reported back on information that could be traced to an individual or group of less than 10 people, and below 30 for free text comments. The University Executive Group and managers will only see combined data reports to ensure your anonymity.
Once the survey has closed, ORC will collate, analyse and report your responses.
Major themes emerging from the survey will be fed back to you by the end of July at the latest, together with action plans following discussions with team leaders. We will also be able to benchmark the outcomes against other universities and organisations outside of our sector.
Your feedback will give us valuable insights into what areas we should prioritise in order to maximise our performance, achieve our strategic aims, and ensure that the University is a great place to work. Wherever possible we will address areas of concern, and in areas where we are doing well, we will look at how we can share best practice.

It has been designed to gather your views about the University.
The aim is to gather information that will improve the working lives for all colleagues at the University.
The more people who take part the better the information will be that we will get, but it isn’t compulsory. We are looking to improve the working lives of all staff and your views are important.
It is an opportunity for you to comment (anonymously) on all aspects of your life at the University. It gives you the chance to comment on the changes that have taken place and influence improvements that are relevant to you.
ORC International collects all information. They have undertaken similar surveys in other HEI’s. They use your information to make a combined data report which the University then receives.
Unless you choose to share your information with anyone, only ORC International will see your completed questionnaire.
Your email is used to give you access to the survey; it is not saved with your completed questionnaire. All answers that you give are merged with those of other departments, so no single person can be identified.
Each person will have their own individual link, so only you can access your survey and responses.
The survey is being produced in accordance with data protection legislation and the Market Research Society’s Code of Conduct. It is the duty of the research company conducting it to ensure that you cannot be identified in any reports that are produced.
The University will receive a combined data report from ORC International. This report will be used to compile an action plan to improve working conditions and practices. The key findings will be shared with staff
You can complete the survey on-line by using the link in the email that you are sent. For members of staff who don’t have regular access to a computer a paper copy of the survey will be provided.
For most of the questions, you will only need to tick a box, so we estimate it taking no longer than 20 minutes.
Yes, you will be given time during the working day to complete the survey.
You will be provided with a printed paper copy of the survey to complete.
You can go back as many times as you like using the “previous” and “next” buttons to make sure you are happy with your answers before you submit them.
Absolutely! We recommend using the Speak & Select screen reader. Read & Write can be used however, certain areas of formatting need to be observed e.g. Date format, response scales are separated over 2 lines, and tick boxes are vocalised as an ‘o’ , rather than a field to indicate your response.
