Electric Vehicles and Charging

All charging points at MMU are hosted by us but are controlled by Transport for Greater Manchester. If anyone wishes to use these points, they must own a GMEV card or download the mobile phone application to use the point. There is no monetary charge to use these points at the time of writing but this could change in the future.

For more information about this scheme please visit: www.ev.tfgm.com.

MMU has 2 different types of charging points. The one pictured below is a "fast charger" that will charge the car in around 4 hours and uses a Type 2 connector cable. The user must own their own cable to use this charger and be registered with the GMEV network using the info above. Using this bay is free from payment for parking as long as charging. Maximum stay is 4 hours.

The locations of these are

  • 1 x 2 points in Cambridge Hall Courtyard
  • 1 x 2 points in John Dalton Car Park
  • 9 x 2 points in Birley Fields Multi Storey Car Park

The charger pictured above is a "rapid charger" and will charge most vehicles in just 45 minutes. This point is located in the John Dalton Car Park close to Chester Street. All cables are provided with this charger and the user must be registered with the GMEV network using the info above. Using this bay is free from payment for parking as long as charging. Maximum stay is 1 hour.

MMU also have a rapid charger in Crewe campus but this is for MMU Vehicles only. It is located by the Student Union/Lecture Theatre building.

To find these locations, please visit our campus maps here.

If there are any issues with these points during office hours then please contact the MMU Travel Team on 0161 247 2989 and we can try to assist. Otherwise, all faults should be reported to Charge Your Car on 01912 650500.
