Public Transport

Staff are encouraged to use public transport wherever possible. This will help reduce congestion and air pollution. Many staff would consider alternative travel options and if you are not aware of the public transport options available to you, this section has useful links and ideas to help such as, personal journey planners and bus, rail and tram information.

Interest free loans

MMU offer interest free loans which allow staff to purchase annual public transport passes, (which tend to be far better value than weekly and monthly options) you then pay them off over a 10 month period.

How do they work?

  • Order your annual bus, train or tram pass through MMU
  • MMU pays the full cost up front and you pay the money back monthly out of your salary
  • The payments are interest free and benefit from corporate discounts e.g.
    System 1 tickets – 5%
    Metrolink – 10%
Stagecoach – £450 for an annual ticket
  • Remember your pass will be valid 24/7 and you can use it as many times as you like, including weekend and evening trips.

Bus

Oxford Road is one of the busiest bus routes in the country. There are links on this page to the main operators in Manchester and MMU Cheshire, as well as the 147 Oxford Road Link and the FREE metro shuttle bus.

The 147 Oxford Road Link

Manchester Metropolitan University and its funding partners have developed a dedicated website which will be a key component in the new promotional campaign for the 147 Oxford Road Link service.

Please have a look around the website and pass on the link to colleagues who may have a personal or professional interest in the use of the service.

There are many advantages to having a specific website for the 147, including:

  • A one stop shop for all the information on the service
  • Up to date service reports and news
  • An easy to use link which can be used on web pages and printed information
  • A simple link to send out to visitors, colleagues, conference delegates etc
  • A downloadable pdf of the new leaflet which includes a route map
  • Twitter and Facebook accounts linked to the homepage
  • Contact information regarding advance bulk ticket purchases for conferences and events

We very much hope you like the new website and use it at every opportunity.

The website will be updated over time and there is the potential for an online bus tracker to added in the future.
