First, check the course details to find out which method you should use to apply.
International applications may be different from UK/EU applications, so visit MMU International's website for more information.
If you are applying to MMU for a full-time degree, HND, Foundation Year or Foundation degree, you will need to apply online through UCAS (the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service)*. The UCAS website provides excellent resources if you experience any difficulties during your application. UCAS is the official applications service for the UK and will send your application details to each of the universities you have listed on your application.
The UCAS website provides excellent resources in case you have any difficulties during your application.
* The exception is the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design. You need to apply for this course directly to MMU using the MMU application form.
There is a standard UCAS administrative charge of £11 if you make just one course choice, or £22 if you make two or more course choices. You can apply for a maximum of 5 course choices.
MMU does not make any further charge for handling your application (with the exception of BA(Hons) Acting for which there is a £35 audition fee payable directly to the University if you are selected for audition).
If you are currently studying at a school or college your tutor or careers adviser will explain the system for applying through UCAS. To register with UCAS you will need to obtain a ‘buzzword’ from your school or college. Once you have registered you will be given a password and username so that you can access your application whenever you wish.
You will need to complete the online application, including your personal statement, and your school or college will add the reference and send the application on to UCAS. Make sure you enter the correct institution code and course code for each choice. If you are still at school you may be given an internal deadline date that is considerably earlier than the official UCAS deadline – this is to ensure that your school has time to complete all of the references and process the forms before the deadline.
If you are no longer at school or college you will need to apply as an independent applicant. You can do this online from any computer, but if you do not have access to the web you are welcome to visit MMU to complete your application by calling us on 0161 247 6969 – we are an official UCAS on-line centre. In addition to completing the on-line application form you will also need to supply a reference from someone who knows you well, and is able to write about why you are suitable for higher education.
The MMU Education Liaison team run Mature Entry sessions to help applicants who are not in school or college. The sessions introduce the UCAS application process and provide advice on personal statements. Book a place on a Mature Entry session now.
See our key dates section for more information
If you are applying from the UK or European Union (EU), whatever your nationality, we must receive your application between September 2011 and 15 January 2012 for your application to be given equal consideration. Most courses at MMU begin in September.
MMU's Art and Design courses now also have a deadline of 15 January as above. We guarantee to consider your application if we receive it by 15 January 2012, with the exception of the Foundation Diploma in Art & Design: applications for this course should be submitted directly to the University by 16th December.
If we receive your application after the 15 January deadline we will still consider it if there are places available on the course, but some of the most popular courses may already be full. It is always best to send your application well before the deadline date if possible.
If you apply for a course after 4th July 2012, UCAS will not send your application to universities but will instead send you details about Clearing. Between 1 July and mid-September we strongly advise all potential applicants to contact MMU directly by ringing our Clearing helpline first on 0800 915 0668. Our helpline staff will be able to help with course vacancy information and put you in touch with MMU admissions staff.
Most applicants will want to spend time thinking about their application. You can log in at different times and enter more information each time you log on. There is no time limit from when you start your application to when you send it, but obviously you will need to be aware of the deadlines.
If you are applying from outside the EU, you can apply at any time between September 2011 and 30th June 2012.
Please be aware that applications for places on popular courses cannot be guaranteed consideration after 15 January. You should therefore try to apply as early as possible.
If you think you may be assessed as a 'home' student (UK or EU) for tuition fees, you should apply by 15 January 2012.
You can only send UCAS one application in each year’s application cycle i.e. for 2011 entry*. If you send a second application, it will be cancelled and you will not receive a refund.
If you do not receive any offers from your initial application, you can make additional choices through UCAS Extra in the Spring term. You will be sent details of Extra if you are eligible. You can also choose additional courses in July and August through the UCAS Clearing system if you have not yet been successful in obtaining a place.
* 2012 entry would count as a separate application cycle.
If you apply by the 15 January deadline you should have received decisions from each of the universities you apply to by 31 March 2012. In this case, you will need to make your decision about which to accept by 9th May 2012.
If you applied after the January deadline other decision dates will apply – see the UCAS website.
You are allowed to accept two courses – one must be your firm choice and the other will be your insurance choice. If you meet the requirements of your first choice you will be expected to take that place, so you need to be sure that the course you have accepted is the one you want to do.
Once you have applied through UCAS you will be able to follow the progress of each of your applications by using UCAS Track. At MMU we will also write to you with news of your application. For some courses we make offers based entirely on the content of the UCAS form, while for others we may invite you to attend an audition, or interview or to submit a portfolio as part of the selection process.
This will depend on the kind of offer we have made to you. If you have already met all of the entry requirements for the course we can make you an Unconditional Offer. As soon as you accept this it becomes a firm agreement and your place is guaranteed.
Most applicants will need to wait until they have the results of further examinations before they will meet all of our entry requirements so it is more usual for us to make a Conditional Offer, i.e. offers to be conditional on the results of examinations you still have to take, with final confirmation of your place being sent in August after results are published. A-level results day is 16th August 2012.
If you meet the terms of your firm choice and ask to be released from this, you will be entered into clearing and CANNOT go to your insurance choice. Make sure that you are prepared for results day and any decisions you may need/want to make. Check UCAS for more details and see our Clearing website for more information about courses and who to contact at MMU.
It couldn’t be easier to apply.
