The entry requirements described in the 2012 prospectus (printed and on-line) are typical offers intended to give an indication of the number of UCAS tariff points you are likely to be asked for on each course.
If you are not familiar with the UCAS tariff you should go to the UCAS website where you will find the points associated with most of the qualifications you are likely to be taking. If you find that any of your qualifications do not appear on the tariff, please telephone our Course Enquiries staff on 0161 247 6969, and they will advise you on the suitability for entry to our courses.
Where the term ‘Advanced’ is used in the prospectus, this means that the points must come from A levels or equivalent (e.g. BTEC National Diploma) but not from AS levels. If the total number of points required is more than the number required from Advanced, you can then count other points to make up the difference (e.g. AS points from subjects you did not continue to A level). Many courses will also ask for specific subjects at GCSE and/or A level or equivalent. Where GCSE subjects are required you will always need at least a Grade C.
There are also minimum university entry requirements that apply to certain types of course.
If you are applying for a degree course (e.g. BA, BSc, etc.) you will need to have at least 2 A levels or equivalent (e.g. a BTEC National Diploma or Certificate).
If you are applying for a Foundation degree (e.g. FdA, FdSc) or a Higher National Diploma (HND) you will need to have at least 1 A level or equivalent, for example a BTEC National Award. You will also need to demonstrate that your English language skills are adequate to complete the course. This is usually met by the requirement to have at least a grade C in GCSE English or equivalent.
If you are an international student you will usually need to have at least IELTS at 6 or above or TOEFL at 550+ (TOEFL 213, TOEFL IBT 79).
Satisfying the minimum or typical entry requirements for a course is not a guarantee of a place.
Many courses are oversubscribed and applications are viewed holistically, taking into account your grades, grade predictions, reference and personal statement, including any relevant experience you may have. In addition, some courses will make use of auditions, interviews or other selection tests as part of the application process.
If you are unsure whether your qualifications will be sufficient to meet the entry requirements for your chosen course you are welcome to call us on 0161 247 6969 to ask for advice.
If you do not have the qualifications listed in the prospectus we are happy to consider the suitability of other qualifications that may be relevant to the course.
