Cheap and Cheerful in Manchester
You work hard and play harder but when it comes to half way through the term and you're low on the paper pennies, what do you do?
Here are some good advice for having a great day out in Manchester on a tight budget.
If you've been watching too much day time TV and haven't had a culture injection recently, nip into Urbis - it's free and it's fun.
There's a whole wall dedicated to the visitors - all you have to do is let a machine take your photo and tell it your likes and dislikes then print it off and stick it on the wall. Very entertaining and you can spend hours reading what everyone else have put on theirs.
If it's a nice day then you can eat your packed lunch outside Urbis, or grab a quick sarnie in one of the many food outlets in either the Printworks or The Arndale Food Court.
It's hard to resist buying everything in sight when you're in town but if you head towards the Northern Quarter, you might be able to get some bargains, especially in Afflecks Palace. There are many one-offs and you dont pay an arm and a leg for the privilege of having exclusive stuff. If you're more of a high street person, Primark, New Look and H & M are hard to beat.
If you really can't afford to buy clothes or your wardrobe is bursting at the seams then try the cinema. Most cinemas have student rates and can cost as little as £3. There are plenty of cinemas in Manchester with the AMC Great Northern being a popular choice. The theatres are good sizes, with big screens and plush surroundings.
If after indulging in sweets and popcorn at the cinema and you still find yourself peckish, why not treat yourself? There are masses of restaurants in the city centre but if you get jump on a bus to Rusholme you will find a strip of over 100 curry houses. The food's not the only great thing here though - the atmosphere is magical, the service is great and the food is a bargain. You'll be hard pushed to spend over ten quid, and that's with drinks!
