About External Examining at Manchester Met

External Examiners play a crucial role in the University's Quality Assurance processes, and in the maintenance of academic standards

External Examiners are appointed by the University in order to:

  • Ensure that assessment tests student achievement rigorously and fairly against the intended learning outcomes, and operates in accordance with institutional policies and Assessment Regulations;
  • Verify that the standard of the University’s awards are appropriate and comparable to other Higher Education Institutions;
  • Contribute to the enhancement of the University’s academic portfolio.
