On the evening of 22nd April 2021, author of Boy, Everywhere, A.M.Dassu was in conversation with Dr Chloe Germaine-Buckley from the Manchester Centre for Youth Studies at Manchester Metropolitan University. Chloe and Az were joined by teacher Sajeda Amir, who was there to discuss the resource that she helped to co-produce with MCBF for this project to support teachers and librarians wishing to use the book in their classrooms.

This Manchester Children’s Book Festival event was the launch of a Read Manchester/Manchester Children’s Book Festival project that will run through the summer term. Boy, Everywhere is the story of 13 year-old Sami, who is forced to flee his home in Damascus and travel to a new life in Greater Manchester. It is a fantastic book and has been nominated for several awards already. When MCBF’s Kaye Tew and Read Manchester’s Margaret Duff and Cheryl Pridgeon read the book, they immediately wanted to get it into the hands, hearts and minds of as many young people as possible.

To find out more about the book and how it can be used in classrooms, please download this free resource. It contains ideas for ways for using the book to read, empathise, research, analyse and respond creatively. The resource also contains links to other websites and resources, making it a one-stop-shop for anyone wanting to use the book in their classrooms.

Schools Q&A Panel Event, with A.M.Dassu

In July, schools are invited to attend a Schools Q&A panel event, where they will be able to put their questions to A.M.Dassu. Further details of this event, which will be available online, will be shared with anyone who signs up via our Eventbrite link. So Save the Date and sign up to be kept informed.

The resource and the event are free and any and all schools are welcome to participate in our project. In addition, many Greater Manchester schools will also benefit from class sets of the books (funded by the Manchester Centre for Youth Studies and Read Manchester and generously supported by Old Barn Books). Read Manchester are also funding a limited number of author workshops in Manchester schools in June 2021. For further details about this element of the project, please email k.tew@mmu.ac.uk
