Answers provided to frequently asked questions relating to the Met Card

Before reaching out directly, we kindly request that you review the FAQs below to see if they address your query. If you cannot find the answers you are looking for, please email the Met Card team.

As part of our ongoing efforts to prioritise student financial wellbeing, we’ve made the decision to phase out the Met Card over the course of this year. Starting from Wednesday 10 April, we will be removing the ability to top-up your Met Card. The Met Card will remain a valid method of payment across campus therefore please continue to spend any remaining balance before the end of this academic year.

Instead of using the Met Card to top up your Papercut account for printing, you can top it up using a debit or credit card. This eliminates the need for the Met Card and continues to provide a seamless experience.

About the Met Card

Problems with your Met Card

  • What do I do if my Met Card is lost or stolen?

Log in with your network ID and password to deactivate the card. You’ll be liable for any purchases made on your Met Card account until the card is deactivated. Once deactivated, you’ll receive a confirmation email, and the Met Card team will be in touch via your Manchester Met email address with options regarding a replacement card.

  • Can somebody else use my Met Card?

No. Students must not give their Met Card to anybody else to use. Our staff accepting Met Cards for payment will ensure that the person presenting the card is the actual cardholder as photographed on the Met Card. In case this happens, then the sale will be refused, and the card confiscated.

  • Why is my card not working?

If you enter an incorrect PIN multiple times, your Met Card will be temporarily locked for 48 hours for balance checking. You’ll still be able to use your card for spending during this time. If the lock remains after the 48-hour period, please contact the Met Card team for assistance.

If your Met Card balance is insufficient, you will receive a “payment failed” error at checkout. To ensure that you have enough funds please check your balance.

If your Met Card is new, you will need to activate it before using it.

Student Support Package

  • Who is eligible for the Student Support Package (SSP)?

The Student Support Package page has all the details regarding eligible students, the terms and conditions along any other important information. If you are entitled to receive the SSP you’ll be contacted via your Manchester Met and personal email addresses.

As of the 23/24 academic year, the SSP will be paid directly to eligible student bank accounts rather than being loaded onto your Met Card.
