How to enter
Entries for the North West Mother Tongue Other Tongue competition, 2024 are welcome from 22 February until 3 June.
Entries to the North West Mother Tongue Other Tongue competition are welcome from schools, libraries and other groups from across the UK and beyond. The North West competition deadline is 3 June 2024. See the North West England page for details of the competition rubric.
This video presentation might be of interest to any teachers, librarians or other group leaders interested in running the project this year.
Other regions across the UK, including East of England, North East England, Scotland and Wales have their own versions of Mother Tongue Other Tongue, with different deadlines. See below for details of competitions and offers close to you.
If Mother Tongue Other Tongue is not co-ordinated in your local region, you can enter your students’ work to the North West England competition. See criteria on the North West England page.

North East England
In the North East of England Mother Tongue Other Tongue runs for schools and community groups across the North East, for young people aged 7-18.
It is run as part of Express Yourself the North East Festival of Languages.
North East entries are invited between 8 January and 22 March 2024.
