FILM and media students have been working on a live project that has seen them explore everything from film and television to gaming and comics.

The FMS Live project was set up as part of Unit X, in partnership with media agency MEC, EE Mobile and AMC Cinemas.

Students were challenged to write blogs and make infographics about contemporary film and media, taking into account how social media is used by agencies and other companies.

Three students, Sophie Ellis, Alex Stirpe and Michael Seddon won a 4G mobile phone provided by EE.

Fantastic insight

Noel Mellor from MEC chose the winning blogs. He said: “The focus on high quality content has never been greater – particularly in the online world – so projects like Unit X are a fantastic way to ensure students have an insight into how this works in a real-world, agency context.

“We were really impressed with the work that came out of the module and how the students responded to their brief. As an employer, MEC is always on the lookout for the most passionate, innovative and creative minds and there were certainly some examples of this type of thinking among those taking part.”

Dr Emily Brick, Programme Leader for Film and Media Studies, said: “Noel is one of our graduates from Film and Media Studies so it is lovely to have him come back in a professional capacity and work on this project with our current students to share his experience and expertise.

“We are very pleased with the work our students produced and hope they will continue their blogs”.
