Manchester Met named Modern University of the Year for second year running
University also recognised as University of the Year for Scholarships and Bursaries 2027
Manchester Metropolitan University has been named Modern University of the Year 2027 by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide for the second consecutive year – retaining one of the most prestigious honours in UK higher education.
Alongside this accolade, Manchester Met was awarded University of the Year for Scholarships and Bursaries 2027, in recognition of its continued commitment to widening participation through its extensive support packages, bursaries and scholarships.
The University also maintained its ranking of 38th overall, demonstrating its outstanding progress and performance in key areas, with the Guide highlighting its commitment to academic achievement and social responsibility.
These prestigious accolades build on a period of significant success for the University which achieved its best-ever performance in the 2026 National Student Survey (NSS) earlier this year alongside being shortlisted for the Times Higher Education University of the Year 2026 Award.
These results demonstrate Manchester Met’s sustained commitment to delivering an exceptional student experience through outstanding teaching and support, reinforcing the University’s reputation as a Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) Gold rated institution.

The University of the Year for Scholarships and Bursaries award recognise Manchester Met’s sector leading commitment to supporting students from underrepresented and less advantaged background.
Through a range of donor-funded bursaries, prizes and other scholarships, more than 600 students are currently receiving financial support thanks to the generosity of the University’s friends and supporters.
Among the University’s flagship initiatives is the First Generation Scholarship programme, which supports students who are the first in their family to attend university.
Since its launch, more than 1,000 First Generation scholars have joined Manchester Met, benefiting from financial assistance, mentoring, career development opportunities and tailored support, designed to help talented students overcome barriers to higher education and thrive during their studies.
