St. Patrick’s Day always falls on 17 March, and what began as a religious holiday has turned into a global celebration of Irish culture! There are plenty of events all week long and over this weekend, St. Patrick’s Day Weekend. 

In Manchester, you can expect to see plenty of bright costumes, lively parades, and fun events happening across the city. Whether you’re looking to celebrate with friends or just want to check out the atmosphere, there’s plenty to get involved with.

The Top Events in Manchester to Celebrate St Patrick’s Day 

The Manchester Irish Festival Parade  

Back again for another year, the Manchester Irish Festival is running for 10 days from Saturday 8 March, until St Patrick’s day on Monday 17 March. This year the annual Parade is happening the day before St Patrick’s, on Sunday 16 March. 

Now in its 35th year, it’s one of the longest-running parades in Europe! As the festival’s main event, the parade lasts over two hours and features more than 30 floats, but there are over 200 extra activities happening across the city. 

When: Sunday 16 March, 12:00pm-2:00pm.  

Where: Irish World Heritage Centre in Cheetham Hill  

Cost: Free 

Little Ireland Festival 

Fancy those summer festival vibes in the centre of Manchester? Introducing Little Ireland Fest, a three-day festival in celebration of Little Ireland, its history, and more. You can expect a mix of over thirty bands, artists and performers over two stages, along with street food, art installations, and DJs to enjoy. 

Grab yourself a ticket for the full weekend for just £10, or individual day tickets for £5. 

When: Saturday 15March – Monday 17 March 

Where: Mother Mary’s Irish Bar 

Cost: £5-10 + £1 booking fee. 

Bongo’s Bingo – St Patrick’s Day Special  

Bongo’s Bingo is getting an Irish makeover! Think B*Witched and U2, to Enya. This crazy mix of traditional bingo, dance-offs and rave intervals involves plenty of audience participation, plus loads of weird and wonderful prizes to be won.   

It will be taking in the Albert Hall in Manchester City Centre on Thursday 13 March. Student tickets are just £7 so grab one now to avoid disappointment.

Live Irish and Folk Music Session 

If you’re looking for something closer to home, the Manchester Met Folk and Ceilidh Group are hosting an evening of traditional Irish music over at The Sal. You can expect a performance of Ceilidh music, with an influence of traditional British culture. As usual, The Sal offers 10% off draught beers when you show your valid Manchester Met student ID! 

No tickets required, just turn up on the day to enjoy. 

When: Monday 17 March, 7:30pm-11:00pm 

Where: The Salutation Pub 

Cost: Free 

Six Nations: Ireland vs Italy 

Cheer on Ireland for the final day of the Six Nations right here at the Union! Catch all the action on the big screen at Boundary, enjoy £2 pints all weekend, and order pizza, paninis and toasties from 12pm. What more could you ask for? Round up your friends and soak up the atmosphere.
