About

About our research

We study the use of 2D nanomaterials as electrode material in sensors, including for detecting gaseous species, trace metal analysis and biosensing.

Our research also examines how graphene can be used in energy storage and generation, including its use as a supercapacitor, for ion storage, within basic fuel cells, and for enzymatic biofuel cells.

We also study other 2D materials, including MoS2 and MoSe2 which we have incorporated into inks and ribbons for screen and 3D printing.

There is huge and growing demand for portable and low-cost biosensors that can be used in medical diagnostics, food testing and environmental monitoring.

We specialise in research into:

  • thermal sensors
  • electrochemical sensors
  • microbiological sensors
  • clinical sensors for biomarker detection
  • environmental sensors

We work closely with our colleagues in the Additive Manufacturing research group.
