Getting your student ID card

Whether or not you are coming to campus for your studies, if you are a new student, you need to upload a photo of yourself and photo of your passport or licence for ID verification as part of your enrolment. We will use your photo for your student ID card.

During September and early October, ID cards are available from collection points in the Business School and Brooks Building. The rest of the year, please visit a Student Hub for your ID card.

If you are a Distance Learner and need an ID card, please email: student_idcard@mmu.ac.uk to request your card and include your student ID number, name, and address.

Replacing your student ID card

It’s important that you keep your student card safe and have it on you at all times when you are on campus.

But don’t worry, if it has been lost, damaged or stolen, find out how you can get your replacement below:

  • Replacing lost student cards

All students receive their initial student ID card free of charge and will receive three free card replacements. If you need a new card, please check the Student Hub web page for details on card printing location and hours.

You will be charged £10 if you require further replacement cards after the three free replacement cards. You can purchase your new card online using either a credit/debit card or your met card. Please bring proof of purchase with you when you collect your card.

  • Replacing stolen student cards

If your student ID card has been stolen, you will be able to obtain a free replacement, regardless of how many previous student cards have been issued.

Please check the card printing location and hours on the Student Hub web page. We will exchange it for a new one free of charge.

  • Replacing damaged, faulty or expired student cards

If your student ID card has stopped working, you will be able to obtain a free replacement, regardless of how many previous student cards have been issued.

Please check the card printing location and hours on the Student Hub web page. We will exchange it for a new one free of charge.

Please be aware that cards generally take 12-24 hours after printing to start working for building access and attendance. If your card works in some situations but not others, then the issue is likely not the card but access control, which is handled by Estates and Facilities.

If you have any questions about your student ID card, please email student_idcard@mmu.ac.uk.
