Components

The entry requirements for each each of our courses are listed in our prospectus, and on the course pages online. They indicate the grade or UCAS tariff points you are likely to need for each course.

More information about the UCAS tariff can be found on the UCAS website.

If you are studying for a qualification not listed on the UCAS site, please contact us for advice.

Where ‘A2’ is used in the prospectus, this means that the points must come from A-levels or equivalent (e.g. BTEC extended diploma) but not from AS-levels. Many courses will also ask for specific subjects at GCSE and/or A-level or equivalent. Where GCSE subjects are required you will always need at least a grade C or grade 4, and for some courses, you’ll need higher grades. For the majority of foundation years, we will consider a grade D or grade 3.

  • Additional selection criteria

Meeting the typical entry requirements for an undergraduate degree course does not guarantee an offer of a place.

We take account of several factors in your application, including:

    • your grades
    • grade predictions
    • reference
    • personal statement
    • relevant experience, where appropriate

Some courses will also use auditions, interviews, portfolios or other selection tests as part of the application process.

If you do not have the qualifications listed in the prospectus we are happy to consider other relevant qualifications. Please contact us for advice.

  • Recruitment and admissions policy

Our recruitment and admissions policy applies to all students registered for undergraduate and postgraduate courses that lead to an award from the University.

The policy covers all modes and levels of study, how we make decisions and includes details of our complaints procedure.

If you would like to submit an appeal or complaint, please first read our applicant appeal and complaints policy.

  • Tuition fee assessment process

The University sets tuition fees at different levels depending on whether a student is classified as Home, Islands or Overseas, using criteria set by the UK government in the Education (Fees and Awards) Regulations 1997, as amended. It is the responsibility of individual higher education institutions to assess the tuition fee status of its potential students. To find out more about the criteria used to determine tuition fee status please read the following UKCISA guidelines.

We will use the information you submit in your application to study with us to determine your tuition fee status. Please note we are unable to carry out fee assessments before receiving your application to study.

In some cases we may require additional information from you. If so, we will contact you by email as soon as possible after we receive your application. This email will ask you to fill in and return our Tuition Fee Assessment Questionnaire, together with copies of relevant supporting documentation. It is possible to appeal against the University’s decision. Details of how to appeal can be found in our tuition fee assessment procedure document.
