Diversity

The University firmly believes in equality of opportunity for all researchers. And we value diversity and inclusion and put them at the heart of our research and knowledge exchange strategy.

We want to lead the education sector in having an inclusive and diverse research environment - and are continuously seeking ways of improving support mechanisms for all of our staff.

Our vision reflects the values set out in the wider approach of the University.

We actively promote diversity, respect the rights of individuals and promote responsible, ethical behaviour.

And we follow UK Research and Innovation’s principles for equality, diversity and inclusion.

Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers

The University is signed up to the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers.

This means it must act in support of three principles:

  • excellent research requires a supportive and inclusive research culture

  • researchers are recruited, employed and managed under conditions that recognise and value their contributions

  • professional and career development are integral to enabling researchers to develop their full potential

Race equality charter

We are working towards obtaining Race Equality Charter by improving the representation, progression and success of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic staff and students.

Research Excellence Framework

Our approved REF 2021 Code of Practice explains how we adjust expectations to support staff with protected characteristics.

REF Code of Practice (Revised October 2020)

Sets out how the University will prepare its submission for the 2021 research excellence framework (REF) evaluation.
