Reasons to support us

We break down barriers

Since 2018, nearly 1,400 young learners, many from less advantaged backgrounds, have benefited from donor-funded awards.

We reward talent

Over 675 students received a donor-funded scholarship, bursary or prize this year, recognising their hard work and ambition.

We change lives

Our First Generation Scholarship Programme has supported over 870 young people, empowering them to achieve their potential. This year, we aim to transform the lives of over 1,000 students.

We open doors to education

Nearly half of our home students come from areas with lower participation in higher education, ensuring that university is a possibility for everyone, regardless of background.

  • Transformational scholarships

Thanks to the generous support of individuals, trusts, foundations, and businesses who share our commitment to equity and inclusion, we’ve established a range of transformational scholarships for students from underrepresented backgrounds at the University. These include:

    • The PlayStation Career Pathways Program
    • REACH Events Scholarships for Black, Asian, and minority ethnic students.
    • Elevate and Discovery Scholarships for learners from low-income households.
    • The Care Leavers and Experience of Care Opportunity Scholarship for those with experience in the care system.

Through both funding and dedicated support, these programmes ensure that creativity and critical thinking can flourish — no matter a student’s background.

Together, we are breaking down barriers, opening doors, and empowering the next generation to thrive and achieve their dreams. Learn more about our supporters and donor-funded awards.

  • Award-winning First Generation Programme

The First Generation Scholarship Programme aims to change the lives of 1,000 young learners from the North West, whose parents or guardians did not go to university.

With the support of friends, we will achieve this ambition. But there is more to be done beyond 2025.
