Our code of conduct

Please respect the library space  

  • Treat others with dignity, courtesy and respect.  You will be asked to leave if your behaviour disturbs others. 

  • Keep your belongings with you at all times.  You are responsible for keeping them safe. 

  • You may bring lidded, non-alcoholic, drinks into Manchester Poetry Library but no food please.  

  • Please dispose of your litter responsibly in the bins provided. 

  • Use the outdoor shelters if you wish to smoke or vape.  You may not charge e-cigarettes on University premises. 

  • Children are welcome in Manchester Poetry Library.  Anyone under the age of 11 must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times. 

  • Assistance dogs accompanying disabled people are welcome in Manchester Poetry Library but no other animals are allowed. 

  • Posters, bills, leaflets and other publicity material may only be displayed at the discretion of library staff. 

Using Poetry Library resources 

  • Please bring your Manchester Poetry Library membership card with you if you want to borrow books or other items.  Don’t lend it to anyone else to use. For Manchester Metropolitan University staff and students, your university ID card is also your membership card. 

  • You may borrow items from Manchester Poetry Library if they are issued to your library account. Please look after anything you borrow and return it in the same condition. 

  • Please let us know if you change your postal or email address so that we can update our records.  We will keep these details confidential according to our privacy notice

  • Use of Manchester Poetry Library’s online resources are subject to the terms and conditions of the suppliers. You must not use them for any commercial purpose. 

Keep yourself and others safe 

  • Keep aisles, stairs and fire exits clear at all times. 

  • Avoid causing trip hazards with trailing wires or bags. 

  • If the fire alarm sounds, please leave the building immediately by the nearest fire exit.  Do not use the lifts.

Further information 

Your membership and access to Manchester Poetry Library may be suspended if you do not comply with this Code of Conduct.  Library staff are happy to help if you have any concerns.
