University exchange programmes

Overall the exchange has helped me to develop personally as an individual while exposing me to new cultures and ways of doing things. This has had a direct impact on how I am now choosing to move forward in my career.

There’s a lot to think about when you are considering studying abroad. You’ll be in a new country, away from family and friends. There are lots of practicalities to arrange before you go, including applications and accommodation, visas and vaccinations. And when you get there, you’ve got registration, new people to meet and a whole new culture to explore.

That’s why it really helps to have an experienced support team to back you up.

At Manchester Met, we have a dedicated study abroad team who can support you throughout each step of your journey. With more than 1,400 of our students studying abroad each year, there are very few situations we haven’t already experienced.

All student travel is subject to approval. Approval can only be granted if Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and University travel advice allows.

Support to study abroad

We will support you at every step of your journey:

  • Deciding to go: Our departmental exchange co-ordinators will help you get a handle on your options, whether it’s a full exchange or an alternative study abroad option. We can talk you through the implications for your student loans, as well as any scholarships you can apply for.
  • Making your choice: We’ll help you make the right decision for your personal, university and career goals. Any special study conditions you have in the UK will apply wherever you choose to study.
  • Connecting with your host: We’ll help prepare the ground for your application by introducing you to your chosen university.
  • Supporting your application: Once you’ve joined our study abroad programme, we’ll support you with your application, offering insight about how to successfully apply.
  • Before you set off: We’ll offer advice and provide you with planning tools to help make sure you stay on top of all the practicalities as you start your study abroad journey. This includes supporting you to find somewhere to live, and providing free, comprehensive travel insurance.
  • When you get there: All our host universities offer welcome activities or orientation events to help you settle quickly into your new environment.
  • Support while you study: If something difficult does crop up while you’re abroad, whether it’s academic or personal, we’ll help you sort it out. Even though you are overseas, you still get access to all the wellbeing support services you would on campus.
  • When you get back: Once you are back in the UK, we’ll support you while you settle back into life at Manchester Met.
