About this funding

Starting university in September 2025? The Success Fund is here to support you financially so you can focus on your studies and make the most of your time at Manchester Met.

  • If you previously received the Student Support Package: You’ll be automatically reassessed, provided your household income information is shared with us as part of your Student Finance application. If you meet the eligibility criteria, we’ll contact you in October 2025 to confirm payment. Course changes or gaps in study may affect your eligibility for the Student Support Package - please contact us if you’re not sure which fund you qualify for.
  • If you previously received the Care Leaver or Estranged Student Bursary: This year, you’ll apply for your bursary through the Success Fund.

Eligibility, amounts paid and how to apply

Who can apply?

To apply for the Success Fund you must:

  • Be enrolled as an undergraduate UK student eligible for home fees
  • Be starting your course on or after 1st August 2025
  • Show that you need financial support - we’ll assess this when you apply.
  • Belong to at least one of the following key groups:

Key Groups:

  • Have a household income of £25,000 or less, confirmed by Student Finance.
  • Care leavers
  • Care-experienced

  • Have refugee/humanitarian protection status
  • Be from one of the 20% most deprived postcode areas in England, according to the Index of Multiple Deprivation
  • Have parent/s in the military (service children)

You can find more information about each key group in our application guide at the bottom of this page.

Exceptions:

Unless you’re a carer, estranged student or care leaver, you can’t apply if you:

  • Have a household income over £42,875, confirmed by Student Finance
  • Receive the NHS training grant
  • Receive the Social Work bursary
  • Receive a scholarship of £3,000 or more for living costs.
  • Have savings above £3,000

If you’re a carer, an estranged student, or a care leaver, these exceptions don’t apply to you and you can submit an application.

How do I apply?

Before you apply, make sure you’ve:

  1. Completed your enrolment.
  2. Got all the evidence you need (check the application guide at the bottom of this page).

Once you’re ready, go to the Digital Student Hub and sign in (the sign in button is located in the black menu bar at the top of the page). After you’ve signed in, you should be able to create a new application.

The application form will be available between:

19 August 2025 - 19th December 2025

Make sure to apply within this window — late applications won’t be accepted unless your circumstances change later in the year.

How am I assessed?

We aim to assess your application within 4 weeks, but it might take longer during busy times.

We’ll use the evidence you submit and the information we already have on our records to check if you’re eligible for support.

If your application is approved, your payment depends on your financial situation and which key student groups you’re part of.

We can only assess complete applications. If your application is incomplete (for example, missing or unclear evidence), we’ll mark it as ‘cannot process’ and email you to let you know what’s missing. You’ll then need to log into the Digital Student Hub, find your application, and upload the missing information by adding a comment. Once you’ve done this, your application will go back into the queue for processing.

Submitting a complete application with correct information helps us make a decision faster. Before you apply, check the assessment guide at the bottom of this page to make sure you’ve included everything we need.

What happens if I’m approved?

You’ll get an email confirming your payment. The amount you receive depends on which key groups you’re in and the outgoings you include in your application form.

If you’re eligible, you could receive between £200 and £1,500 per year.

  • Most students will receive a payment from the lower end of this scale
  • Only students in several priority groups will be considered for the full amount
  • If you’re a care leaver, estranged, or a carer, you’ll get at least £1,000 per year
  • Payments of £500 and under will be paid in one instalment
  • Payments over £500 will be paid in two instalments
Instalment 1 Paid from Friday 14 November 60% of total award
Instalment 2 Paid on Friday 27 February 2026 40% of total award

If your application is not approved

We know it can be disappointing if your application isn’t approved. After receiving our decision email, you’ll be able to view a breakdown of your assessment by logging back into the Digital Student Hub and checking your application. If you spot an error, please let us know by completing an appeal form. You’ll need to include a personal statement and any supporting evidence.

Appeals must be submitted within two weeks of receiving your decision email.

You cannot appeal if:

  • You disagree with the eligibility criteria
  • Your household income is above the threshold
  • You were awarded less than you hoped for (you may be able to apply to the Financial Assistance Fund)
  • You missed the application deadline

Changes to Your Circumstances

We understand that things can change during the year — and that might affect your eligibility for support.

You can let us know if your circumstances change, such as:

  • Your enrolment status (e.g. suspension, withdrawal, or repeating without attendance)
  • Your personal situation (e.g. becoming estranged or a carer)
  • Your household income
  • Other changes, like fee status or mode of study

You can submit a change of circumstances form up until Friday 24 April 2026.

We’ll also check for changes before the second instalment is paid in February 2026. If your situation has changed, your payment may be adjusted.

    • Be uncropped, so we can see the full page exactly as it appears in your online banking.

You’ll also need to nominate a bank account – this is the account we’ll use to make your payment if your application is approved.

  • Household income of £25,000 or less.
