Travel

We’ve achieved a 15% reduction in Single Occupancy Vehicle from 2007 to 2010 across all campuses. The percentage of staff travelling to work by car has decreased from 59% in 2007 to 44% in 2010. That’s 420 extra members of our staff who now travel to work on public transport or by cycling.Train usage has risen from 9% to 16%; cycling has increased from 7% to 9%; bus usage has risen from 15% to 17%. That’s quite a lot of fit staff!

Sustainable travel doesn’t have to mean wearing out your shoe leather once a week, but we should all think about the impact the way we travel has on the environment. It’s easy to make small adjustments to the way we travel, and we hope we can give you some ideas.

Our goals are to:

  • Reduce single occupancy vehicle (SOV) targets for our Crewe and Manchester campuses by the end of 2010
  • Promote our travel plan for staff and students to increase awareness of different modes of transport, and the help we can offer to our staff and students
  • Invest in and provide facilities for cyclists and staff and students who use public transport.
