Research outputs
I research the impact of social group memberships in everyday life, particularly in relation to individual and collective health.
My work considers the impact of our social identifications on conflict: from the political violence of Northern Ireland, to the everyday violence of UK pub and club culture. I also write on the often overlooked social elements of health processes, particularly in regard to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Further work considers the cultural elements of UK alcohol consumption.
I am also interested in the development of the social psychological Social Identity Theory. My PhD examined the role of time in social identity processes, particularly in relation to the internet and political protests.
