My profile

Biography

I have nearly 20 years of experience working in education including in HE, secondary, primary, SEND and alternative provisions.

My current role is split in two: Academic Lead for Future me plan (was My 5 Year Plan) working across the University with students, academics and professional services, in particular the Careers and Employability Service. Future me plan aims to support students with their personal and professional development, contributing to the Graduate Outcomes strategy. I have lead on the refresh of the Graduate Attributes framework which is used in Future me plan for students to use to set goals and work towards skills, knowledge and competencies, that complement the Education Strategy.

Secondly, I lead the new Short Courses with Mark Peace, part of the Government’s ‘trailblazing’ Lifelong Loan Entitlement pilot. The innovative 12-week courses have been designed in partnership with employers, industry leaders and potential students to create a highly flexible pathway for students to set their own pace and build up to a full Cert HE (Level 4) if they wish. The courses are primarily aimed at those in the Early Years sector, within education, health and social care. We have mapped our courses against the new GMCA Workforce Competency Framework and are working together to promote the opportunities across Greater Manchester.

My passion and research areas include creative pedagogies, experiential learning, education for social justice; student voice/co-production; plus widening participation.

Alongside my role at Manchester Met I am a vice-chair of governors at a specialist provision for students with social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH) and the co-founder of the women and girls’ cricket section, now the largest in the county.
